Teacher Support
The PTA supports our teachers in every way possible. After the fall fundraiser, each teacher gets a check for $100 to cover classroom expenses that would otherwise be paid out of their own pockets. In addition, teacher grants, totaling $8,000, are offered twice each school year, funded by Gold and Diamond PTA membership dues.

Cultural Arts
Throughout the year, your PTA hosts writers in residence to work in the classroom with various grade levels. PTA has sponsored performances by opera companies, theater groups, musicians, and dancers to enhance the cultural atmosphere at the school. Reflections is a statewide program that recognizes student achievement in the arts and is sponsored by the PTA.

Media Center
The PTA supports the Ligon Media Center with volunteer assistance and funds. It sponsors the annual Book Fair.

Student Focus
Parents work with student counselors and teachers in providing tutoring assistance to needy students. Parents assist as test proctors during the year. PTA sponsors a Career Day to introduce students to leaders in the work community. PTA supports efforts of the Student Council and other student organizations.

Recognition
Throughout the year, the PTA recognizes and rewards our students and staff in a variety of ways. A Student Honors Breakfast and an Awards Day are held in the Spring. Teacher, Secretary, Custodial and Bus Driver Appreciation Weeks offer our staff a chance to shine and be recognized by the families of Ligon.

Publications
The PTA publishes a PTA Newsletter to keep families up to date on various activities. Additionally, in mid-fall, the School Directory is distributed to families, and the Yearbook celebrates the activities of the year.

Advocacy and Public Service
The PTA acts as an advocate for families, schools and, when needed, for magnet schools, building needs, and Ligon Middle School. In this election year, the PTA will work with the Student Council to sponsor Kids Vote, a national program to educate students about the election process. Parent Education Programs are held throughout the year.

Facilities and Technology
PTA committees work with the principal and staff to ensure an attractive, safe physical environment for our children both in the school and on the buses. Additionally, a Technology Committee supports the development of a computer infrastructure at our school and a technology friendly communication system.
