Ms. Miller

Ms. Miller teaches eighth grade science on the Groundhogs team. She also teaches some electives; Oceanography and Astronomy. She likes her team because it is proactive and really pushes its students. She enjoys the staff at Ligon, and loves that the student body is so diverse. She feels that homework is important in reinforcing what is learned at school. She typically assigns homework two to three nights a week. In her science class, tests and labs are worth more than class work and homework.

Ms. Miller went to the University of Michigan. She attended that college because she is from Michigan, and she was a fan of their football team. Also, her mother and grandfather went there. She majored in education, and got degrees in science and math. She became a teacher because all her life experiences had pointed her towards that path. She came to Ligon because she wanted to live in North Carolina, and science is her favorite subject.Scientist

Ms. Miller thinks that science is a really important subject. She says that science will help students in later life because it can be applied to almost anything. Her favorite scientist is her ninth grade biology teacher, because she made science fun. In her class, she admires how her students manage to step out of their comfort zone.

Ms. Miller’s started at Ligon in 2008. Before Ligon, she used to teach in Ann Arbor. Ms. Miller likes doing labs, and her favorite lab is “Identifying an Unknown.” In that lab, you get a powder and you need to use certain chemicals to identify the powder.

Ms. Miller enjoys playing tennis and soccer. She also likes to go hiking. The best advice she likes to give her students is ALWAYS TRY YOUR BEST!!!
